Standards in an International Context
NCCF has been working closely with various international organizations to develop, validate, and implement early learning and development standards for young children. Standards are statements or expectations for learning and development that specify what young children should know and be able to do at various ages.
Built on the values stated for young children, the standards work has significant implications for early childhood education, with over 40 countries involved in the effort.
Project goals include synthesizing lessons learned from various countries experiences with the standards effort. The project will also chronicle how countries are using the standards and the challenges they faced in developing and implementing them. As the product of this effort, we will produce a comprehensive volume detailing the international experience related to standards.
